Desmond’s brow furrowed as he realized they were inescapably surrounded, and he nudged Peter back, stepping in front of him and providing a very solid human shield between his lover and the Butchers. Peter was the stronger of the two, with more powers in his arsenal, but Desmond knew that he could keep his lover phased so the Butchers’ attacks couldn’t harm him, thus keeping Peter from having to split his attention.
Desmond wasn’t much of a fighter, having opted for doctoral knowledge to be programmed into his head by Topher, but he could definitely handle protecting Peter. There was no way that he was going to let any harm come to his lover.
He reached behind him, his hand instinctively latching onto Peter’s, their fingers lacing together. One deep breath later, Desmond’s eyes narrowed, filled with the fierce need to keep his lover safe, and he exhaled, squeezing Peter’s hand tightly as they went intangible as the first volley of shots were fired.
