A surprise anniversary present for Peter...

Left on his pillow, along with a handwritten, glitter gel pen note...

"One year ago today, I met a confused young man who couldn't remember falling asleep. I was intrigued and a little bit 'wtf' but I stuck around, got to know him.

It's been a wild ride, and I know you don't remember a lot, but I'm glad you're still here. ♥ Des"

He also added a date, "3-9-10" but mun forgot to write that on it...

[after a moment, he reaches over, brushing his hand against Peter's]

[oh much blushing here] Quebec.

{smiles] Yes, Peter? [brushes his hand against Peter's again, briefly curling his fingers around Peter's]

I feel... nervous all of a sudden.

It's okay to be nervous.

But I sleep next to you. I should feel more confident about a simple coffee date.

We've slept next to each other for months though, even when you weren't yourself. Sometimes the body remembers things and is more comfortable with things than the mind. Muscle memory or something like that.

You mean Kilo and Quebec.

[licks his lips] Before that too... Desmond and... [he trails off; he hasn't mentioned Michael, doesn't know if Peter even remember him or if it would be a good idea to mention him]

Michael.

[is genuinely surprised and smiles softly, nodding] Yeah. You do remember him... I mean, I know that he's not the real you either...

No, I don't remember. You were thinking about him.

[blinks, eyebrows lifting] Oh. That's right. You read minds.

I try not to, but the name "Michael" came out really strong.

[blushes and smiles sheepishly] He was my boyfriend.

...Oh. [and look at that, the subway stopped. Peter's getting off]

[frowns slightly at Peter's tone, and he quickly follows, afraid he's said something wrong] Peter...

[standing on the sidewalk looking broody]

[licks his lips and stops beside Peter, shoving his hands into his coat pockets] I didn't know about the Dollhouse then... I met Peter, and I asked him out. We went out and halfway through the date, he told me that he was really Michael, that he'd been hired to play Peter. I was confused but intrigued and...went along with it, and then...the Dollhouse interferred.

It wasn't me, Des. Michael, Kilo.... They aren't me.

I know that, Peter. I'm not trying to say that they are -- were, whatever.

I just don't really know you that well, Des. And... you don't know me. It feels awkward.

I don't want you to be awkward... I don't... I want to know you. Tell me what I have to do to make this less awkward.

I don't know. This is our first date, so... let's just go from there.
